Sims 2 Mods

Take Vacation Day

I was getting very frustrated with sims (particularly vampires) that would get up to go to work even when they had a ton of vacation time available to use, and ended up making my first ever mod for the Sims 2 to change the behaviour of sims so that by default they use their vacation time instead of saving it.

TakeVacationDay is a global behaviour mod, that:

  • Stops a sim from autonomously waking up/dressing for work if they have a vacation day
  • Notifies the user that the Sim wants to use their vacation day, and how many days are available to use
  • Prevents the carpool from arriving for that sim
  • Still allows the user to manually select “Go To Work” on an owned car, or “Walk To Work” on the sim to override the mod if the user wants the sim to work anyway (the same way as pregnant sims can be sent to work regardless of their pregnancy)

Compatibility: Requires Mansion & Garden (that’s what the mod was built from). Will probably conflict with any mod that changes the calculations for whether a day is a work day.

Install by placing in your “My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads” folder (or a subfolder inside the Downloads folder). To revert to normal behaviour, just delete the package from that folder.

Community Lot Parties

While it’s possible to have a group outing on a community lot and get married during the outing, by default it’s not possible to throw a wedding party (and get the wedding party memory) on one.

This mod is a simple mod that enables:

  • Wedding Parties
  • Golden Anniversary Parties

on community lots.

Potential Issue: If you want to go on a honeymoon vacation, I’d recommend returning home with your new spouse first and booking a normal vacation. While the van will pick you up from the community lot after the wedding party, when you return home after the vacation you just walk back without the van – which means you don’t get holiday bonuses, and it may not count towards the “travel 3″ or “travel 5″ times memories. I also don’t know what would happen if you drove to the party location – whether you’d drive back or would lose the car if you went on vacation from the community lot. Things like aging up from Young Adult to Adult for the sim moving in also don’t occur until you first return to the home lot. So, while you could use a honeymoon…I’d strongly recommend using the normal “start vacation now” vacation after returning home from the wedding party instead.

If the wedding party was held at home, feel free to use the honeymoon type vacation. The above comments only apply when going on vacation from a community lot after holding the wedding party at the community lot.

Note: I originally enabled Birthday Parties as well – but the birthday cake is not usable on a community lot. I’ve now uploaded a replacement version of this mod that doesn’t enable Birthday Parties on community lots, because they’re borked ;). Golden Anniversary parties don’t require anything special other than 2 married elder sims, so they should work fine.

Compatibility: Requires Mansion & Garden (that’s what the mod was built from).
